Mainstream Media broadens news sources

Publisher adds news sources, news wires to network of portals

LOS ANGELES - March 20, 2013 - PRLog -- Bahrain-based news publisher Mainstream Media is broadening its base of news providers.

Established in 1996, Mainstream now operates the News.Net directory of sites featuring stand-alone portals for each major country, region and city. Much of its news is taken from its parent Big News Network, however that content is supplemented by content from a number of contracted-news wires and other sources with which the group has entered into licensing arrangements.

External sources from which content is spidered have also been bolstered with a recent review of existing and new news generators.

"Ensuring we have the latest and best quality content to display on our sites is a priority and a challenge, a Mainstream Media spokesman said Wednesday.

"It is a very competitive landscape out there and we are constantly under pressure to be continuing to improve and refine our content products," he added.

Mainstream says it is possibly the first group to assemble a global network of news sites. It began its services in 1999 when most generic news domains with the .net extension were freely available. The group registered every news.net domain for almost all locations around the globe (regions, countries, and cities).
