TAMPA, Fla. - March 14, 2013 - PRLog -- Now a second year student, Shay has completed over half of her required coursework and is scheduled to graduate in the Fall of 2014.  With her appetite wet for knowledge and the honing of her writing career, Shay plans to continue to the Masters and Doctorate programs.
An educational dream re-awakened,  this vibrant African American woman is  defying the odds and making it happen with hard work and determination.  Shay’s longing to complete her education has stayed with her throughout the years and as a result, she enrolled in college to finish what she started.  She hopes to inspire others to pursue their dreams as well.

A second dream fulfilled, Shay has published her first book, “Black Silk,”
a poignant collection of humorous and heartfelt pieces of poetry and prose.  In Black Silk, Author Shay Cook shares witty anecdotes and earnest life messages in an assortment of rhyme and free verse. The title references the smooth, luscious feel of silk against skin. Her verse seeks to evoke the same sensations--sumptuous, sensual, soothing, and sinister. Black Silk captures aspects of the human experience, exploring an abundance of topics, including love, forgiveness, and grief. Divided into four intimate sections, this collection ventures into the thoughts and emotions of all.

Shay Cook has been writing professionally for over twenty years, harvesting bylines in both small presses and national publications. Among her literary credits are non-fiction articles and poetry published in The Quill, Prominent Voices in Poetry, Writer’s World, Office Professional Magazine, Chips Off the Writer’s Block, Black Cat Poetry, Yesterday’s Magazette, Shadow Poetry, and numerous Poetry Anthologies.

Shay Cook is the recipient of the Tampa Tribune Letter of the Day Editorial Award, The Hillsborough County Library Cooperative Lit Wit Poetry Award, and the Circle of Poets Award. As Featured Poet of WMNF Radio, The Westcoast Center for Human Development, the Plant City Urban League, and numerous regional and national venues, Shay has performed her work to hundreds receiving standing ovations, literary accolades, and invitations for reappearances.

Shay pays her literary talents forward by teaching children and adults to read and write, as well as hosting creative writing workshops where she finds deep and rewarding satisfaction in helping others.

According to Shay, “Life is poetry in motion arousing the poet’s pen!”
