March 4, 2013 - PRLog -- The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan announced that it is accepting nominations for the 2013 Mariam C. Noland Award for Nonprofit Leadership Award.

Named after the Community Foundation’s current president in honor of her more than 25 years of service to the organization, the award recognizes a nonprofit president or CEO in southeast Michigan whose service exemplifies the importance of nonprofit leadership, not only to their organization, but also to the wider nonprofit community.

Nominations must be made through the Foundation’s online application at www.cfsem.org by April 1.  The Award will be announced at the annual June meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Community Foundation.

The Community Foundation will make a one-time grant of $10,000 to the recipient’s nonprofit organization to allow him or her to attend professional continuing education, take a personal sabbatical for career rejuvenation, or engage in philanthropic leadership activities.  Previous winners included Susan T. Mosey, president of Midtown Detroit, Inc., and Kenneth C. Fischer, president of the University Musical Society (UMS) of the University of Michigan.

Throughout her career, Noland’s work has exemplified the importance of civic leadership, the value of education and the necessity for integrity and financial stewardship by all nonprofits. She has been instrumental in bringing together community and civic leaders with nonprofit organizations to help create important initiatives in the community, including the development of Detroit’s RiverWalk and the establishment of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy.

Under Noland’s leadership, the Community Foundation has granted more than $582 million through more than 43,000 grants.  Assets have grown to more than $654 million and the Foundation now holds endowments for more than 180 organizations and nearly 1,000 funds from individuals and businesses throughout the country. The organization is now one of the 20 largest community foundations in the country.

“The winners of this award will be individuals who exemplify the importance of personal commitment to philanthropy and what life-long service to others means to the quality of life in the region,” said Community Foundation Chair Allan D. Gilmour.
