Feb. 25, 2013 - PRLog -- La Harba, CA, February 10 /ProjectManager/ --One of the hardest things to do is managing multiple projects, especially if there’s an experience barrier between the manager and the project itself. Back in the day, people used actual calendars and post-its to keep track of the multiple projects that they have been running at the same time; where easy projects are mixed with complex ones and complex ones get harder by getting things mixed up.

The Complexity of multitasking depends on what the project manager is doing, his experience compared to the gravity of his project or the limited resources that he’s got for example. So what should a project manager do to solve that?

Jennifer Whitt – Bridges, Director of, shared 3 simple tips on how to eradicate management issues with multitasking. On a 7:30 minute video for Project Manager’s whiteboard session, Whitt – Bridges stated that issues with running multiple project start with the manager’s inability to track dependencies like over-allocated and over committed resources, shifting of resources to a project with higher priority without backup plans and failure to update plans. Another thing which is really common is that project managers usually setup unrealistic deadlines which, more often the not, end up to rushed results with poor performance reviews.

What is the solution to a successful project planning? First is the use of templates. Using templates would make projects which require similar items easier to deal with seamlessly. This also helps with the conformity of how documentations appear.

Next in line is the use of tools and software, using management tools such as post-its and spreadsheets really help with managing multiple projects, further compartmentalization of items into sectors would make a thousand stories look like one picture in general.

Asking management tips from successful professionals is the best solution to this issue. On her Youtube video, Whitt – Bridges gave out 3 important tips about managing multiple projects, first is to define each project in detail and allotting each one with required resources, second is to setup a way to track the progress of each project.

Her last tip is about managing dependencies. “Having a mechanism set up for managing dependencies and knowing when other critical milestones shift or other resources shift, knowing how those dependencies effect, not only your current project, but how they may affect the other ones. Typically in most organizations that I see where project managers are managing multiple projects, again, it’s for typically their core competency so the teams are on those same projects as well.” Whit – Bridges added. Managing multiple projects no matter how big or small; as long as the project manager has all the resources he needs, as what people say, it could be a walk in the park to execute.
