| CEE and Gen-Probe Host Bite of Science Dinner Event to Strengthen Science TeachingTeachers will have the opportunity to hear Drs. Rohr and Woolf speak about cutting edge research areas, view a laboratory demonstration if possible, and find out how to connect the research to the high school classroom and laboratory.
By: Maureen Palmer The mission of the Teacher Enrichment Program is to assure a future talented and diverse U.S. workforce in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). It focuses on best practices and resources, as well as exposure to the breadth and depth of scientific discovery often not available to rural and urban high school teachers and their students. The Bite of Science professional development opportunities for teachers is estimated to impact at least 10,275 California students in 2013. The Teacher Enrichment Program will provide content and information for teachers to engage students to pursue careers in science and technology. “I commend the Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) for its dedication to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, “said Congresswoman Susan Davis, 53rd District of California. “As a member of Congress who serves on the House Education and Workforce Committee and a Member of CEE’s Board of Trustees, I share your commitment to improving STEM education and providing our teachers and students with the tools they need to succeed.” CEE’s Bite of Science will feature: Thursday, February 28, 2013 · Dr. James Rohr, Research Physicist-Hydrodynamics, STEM Outreach Coordinator, SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific · Dr. Lawrence Woolf, Materials Physicist and Engineering Manager, Reconnaissance Systems Group, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Drs. Rohr and Woolf will discuss their work and relate it back to the classroom for the teachers.
