Feb. 5, 2013 - PRLog -- In two generations, a family moves from slavery to freedom as homesteaders in the territories of the Southwest in a new historical fiction "The Wagoners" by Claudine LeBeau, available now at Smashwords.com.

"The Wagoners" follows Cynthia as she is sold away from her family as a young girl in 1830's Mississippi to become a breeder on a slave-raising plantation. Years later, she is sold again to become the cook for a widowed clergyman, who fathers the only child that she will ever be able to keep, her son Lonnie.

With Emancipation comes the inevitable overturn of their way of life. Cynthia, Lonnie and Reverend Wagoner slowly begin to see themselves in different ways, and Reverend Wagoner goes so far as to send Lonnie to a school for freedmen.

When Lonnie takes a post as teacher to the freed slaves in a small town, he comes up against the resentment of the white residents, and is forced to flee and find a better life for himself and his young family in the New Mexico Territory.
