When asked why she decided to use a vagabond—a term often used to refer to criminals—as her main character, S.M. Boyce stated, “That’s the whole fun, actually: the Vagabond is considered a criminal even though the role was designed to protect those who can’t fight for themselves.” S.M. Boyce goes on, placing an interesting twist to the vagabond name. “The term ‘vagabond’ plays on a secondary definition of ‘homeless.’ The Vagabond of Ourea has no allegiance to any nation, and the role is therefore feared even more.”
