Follow on Google News | Encinitas Guitar Orchestra Now FormingGuitarists of all skill levels are invited to participate in the Encinitas Guitar Orchestra’s upcoming session which will focus on folk music from around the world.
By: Margolin & Associates The orchestra's 25 - 30 amateur guitarists will spend the spring practicing that will culminate in a performance Friday, May 17. The public is invited to attend. the orchestra is comprised of local musicals from beginner through advanced levels who learn technique and theory under the supervision of Peter Pupping and William Wilson, two accomplished Encinitas-based musicians and teachers. Pupping has organized and conducted a guitar orchestra since 1999. this session's music is sure to please those how love folk music, guitar music or world music. Pieces include the Banana Boat Song (Day-O); El Condor Pasa, made popular by Simon and Garfunkel; Turkey in the Straw; and Afro Cuban Lullaby, among others. Rehearsals are Mondays from 7 - 9 p.m. at Ranch view Baptist church, 415 Rancho Santa Fe Dr., in Encinitas, beginning Monday, Feb. 25, 2013. Participating in the session costs $300. Puppig has been teaching and performing in Southern California for more than 30 years. His band, the Peter Pupping Band, has released several CDs. the latest, entitled Cafe Pacifico, combines a variety of music including Nuevo Flamenco, Cuban, West African, Nuevo Tango, Bossa Nova, Samba and latin Smooth Jazz. Pupping earned bachelor's and master's degrees in music from San diego State University. He organizes and directed the Encinitas Guitar Orchestra twice each year.
