Budget phones from Apple might lead a restructuring in iPhone app development

With the segmentation of iPhone however, the likability factor of the device might go down for developers which in turn  can degrade the app experience for users as well.

One thing Apple is still blessed with, is their long development cycle of iOS. Pioneering the mobile OS with an addictive experience, Apple has made its fortunes and has mastered software development for its devices. It will not be very difficult for apple to tone down its current version of operating systems and create lighter versions of its mobile OS. If Apple succeeds in keeping the performance unaltered across its devices it will be able to keep their customers happy while motivating the mobile app development community alongside and continue to be their preference. To effectively segment the market one can also think of segregating apps with respect to the hardware capabilities of the device. While mid range devices might have free apps with in app advertisements, higher end devices will mostly have more paid apps with prioritized updates.

Apple has built a fortress of trust based on its high end products due to which  it might able to pull a critical mass of users towards its product line of iPhones. However, it will be interesting to see how Cook creates the equilibrium between budget driven Apple products and the premium brand perception of the company that’s making it sell.
