Jan. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- ThinkBox Publishing is proud to announce the release of Balmoral: A Novelette (978-0-9876986-4-3), the first of a series of novelettes that extend the fictional universe of author Matt Hader’s 2011 novel, Bad Reputation. Fans of the book will have the opportunity to learn more about their favorite characters. “What were some of these characters doing before the novel began, what were they doing when they weren’t on the page, and what happened after the book ended? ” asks Matt. “I’m going to answer those questions with a series of novelettes (some dramatic, others comedic) that will focus on various characters and certain aspects of their lives that I find most fascinating.”

Inspired by Matt’s childhood experiences, Bad Reputation is an emotionally compelling dark comedy about the struggle to find one’s identity after a lifetime of societal ostracization. “I’ve always wondered what was going on in the mind of a person who was being ostracized,”says Matt. “Were they totally beaten emotionally in addition to the physical bullying they may have endured? Or were they biding their time for when they could stand up for themselves. Bad Reputation is my offering as a cautionary tale to those who bully others. You just never know what that ‘victim’ may be plotting.”

In the novel Bad Reputation, Larry, a talented and dedicated cook at Dink’s Diner, a popular Balmoral meeting spot, met a 37-year old loner named John Caul. Unknown to Larry at that time, John Caul was hatching a wayward plan to bring harm to the town of Balmoral for the lifetime of ostracization he’d been experiencing. Ostracization brought on by the accidental damage John, himself, caused the town twenty years earlier when he was a teenager.

Balmoral takes place nine months before the events of Bad Reputation. Larry has yet to even discover the town of Balmoral and, sadly, having recently given up on his artistic dreams, he’s floundering through life without purpose, which leads to an unfortunate, but inevitable, arrest.

While serving the community-service portion of his sentence delivering meals for senior citizens, Larry meets Mr. Herman in the town of Balmoral. Mr. Herman is a somewhat unlikeable recluse who enlists the reluctant Larry to help him complete a task to right a wrong he caused earlier in his own life. Larry doesn’t quite realize it then, but the steps he takes in assisting Mr. Herman will be the catalyst he needs toward becoming the man he is to soon be.
