Dec. 19, 2012 - PRLog -- WiredIn SEO, a Las Vegas SEO firm, today announced information regarding the potential negative effects of localized SEO efforts on some search results.  The two-year study tracked the effects of localized SEO efforts on the overall presentation of the website in results.  While localized search engine optimization proved valuable in most cases, there were instances that showed a negative effect when considering the overall goal of traffic to a website.

"Creating a local Places listing on Google is almost always beneficial to businesses who cater to a local demographic," stated Raymond Santopietro, President of WiredIn SEO.  Most cases will create a situation where competition is reduced within the blended search results, giving preference to local businesses.  For example, a search from a local area for the generic term "dentist" will provide organic results that sometimes have local results and sometimes don't.  Google is going to great lengths to strip out "double presentations" of the same websites, creating a situation where a local business with a Places listing might not get presented at all if the localized algorithm is not triggered by the search, due to the stripping out of the organic result.  What this means is that there are cases where a business may gain a decent local ranking, but not be shown if that ranking  is a Places listing, due to Google stripping out the organic result.  If the local Places listings are not shown for that search, the business gets no presentation."

What is to be learned is that all SEO must be analyzed in order to come up with the best strategy.  If local listings are not shown for the majority of targeted searches, then a more organic SEO strategy is necessary.  If local results take priority in the results, then a localized strategy is in order.
