Alternaria & Indoor Air Quality Discussed in New Online Video

The IAQ Video Network releases another educational video about indoor air quality (IAQ), industrial hygiene, pathogens or toxins.

Dec. 16, 2012 - PRLog -- Today, the IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of another online video to help educate the public about issues that may impact their health.  Their latest educational video discusses Alternaria, a fungus often associated with water damaged buildings.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “The most common indoor molds are Cladosporium, Penicillium, Aspergillus, and Alternaria.”  Alternaria is also a known allergen and may trigger asthma attacks in susceptible individuals.  People with weakened immune systems, such as those suffering from AIDs, are also susceptible to opportunistic infections caused by Alternaria.  These infections may manifest themselves as cutaneous and subcutaneous infections.  Others infections may appear on the eyes, sinuses, or the nails.

“Properties that have suffered water damage, or elevated humidity levels, that have resulted in mold contamination may find Alternaria as one of the types of mold growing in the property,” reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network and the new public outreach video.  “We hope this video helps to educate people about mold in indoor environments and how they can protect their health.”
