Dec. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Last week while visiting Pear Tree Game Ranch, hunter Tedd Johnson set out to accomplish a long standing goal and ended up achieving a dream.  You see, Tedd had set the goal a few years ago to harvest a 180”, or better, whitetail deer with his bow.  This was not just a wish or hope but a goal that he had worked towards. Along the way he has had a few opportunities at success but it always seemed that Lady Luck had turned her back on him.  He had seen deer moving towards him only to see them change direction or stay just outside of range and, of course, he had those deer that would never quite present the shot needed for a clean kill. Tedd did not get frustrated, he got persistent.

Last week when he arrived at Pear Tree Game Ranch, Tedd had that feeling that this trip was different. You know, that optimism that we all feel at the beginning of a hunt, the idea that this trip will be the one where the opportunities are many and the mistakes are few. But for Tedd, this trip was different.   Upon arriving at Pear Tree Game Ranch, Bill "Corntooth" Bowers, the ranch manager, recommended that he try a new blind that they had created for bow hunters.  The blind was hidden back in the trees with a lazy creek that half circled about 40 yards out.  The game trails moved the whitetail back and forth between the creek and the blind.  The blind itself is nestled up in a solid oak tree and is bigger than most bow blinds, earning it the name “The Cadillac”.

With good views up and down the creek Tedd settled in for the evening hunt, but the wait would not be long. A monster buck heavy in the rut, snorting and scratching the ground with his hooves soon appeared to the northwest and took his time working towards them. Several times Tedd thought that the deer would not give him the chance he needed.  The buck stopped 32 yards out and looked up at the blind, giving Tedd that sick feeling that it was another blown hunt.  But the buck held for a moment then looked ahead at the does he was following. This gave Tedd all the time that he needed to rise from the blind and draw.  He found his mark and let the arrow fly.  The buck jumped, ran, stumbled across the creek and went down just 70 yards from where he had been shot.

Tedd knew that he was big, but in the rush and adrenalin he was not sure how big.  Bill, the ranch manager, took tape measure, pen and paper to measure out what he had.  What he had was a 230 inch typical. That’s right, 230 inches. Tedd now holds the archery record and over record at the Pear Tree Game Ranch and exceeded his goal by 50 inches.  It has been a week and he is still smiling. As of writing this we are still waiting for the net score but believe this is one of the largest typical whitetails taken with a bow in the state of Texas. Yes, the entire state.

Tedd set out to achieve a goal and like any goal worth achieving, he was tested. But what we often find in the work, sweat and heartache on the path to a goal is that when it is achieved, what you really achieved was our dream.   Congratulations Tedd and we look forward to you setting a new record next year at Pear Tree Game Ranch.
