Cass Welcomes 76th Generation Custodian of House of Mewar

Cass Business School was delighted to welcome HRH Mr. Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar, 76th Generation Custodian of House of Mewar.

Nov. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- He visited the school in October as a guest of Ajay Bhalla, Professor of Global Innovation Management, and Joseph Lampel, Professor of Strategy and Innovation.

Mr Mewar heads The House of Mewar, India's oldest royal family, which dates back to 734 AD. It has an unbroken chain of custodianship spanning more than 13 centuries.  The House of Mewar is acknowledged as the world's oldest-serving dynasty.

Mr Mewar manages the HRH Group of Hotels in Udaipur - the flagship venture of the House of Mewar.  He is also the Chairman and Managing Trustee of the Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation (MMCF). This is an initiative of the House of Mewar which encourages service to the community.

During his visit Mr Mewar gave a short interview on how family has held its importance and relevance as India has evolved and developed. Mr. Mewar emphasised, "I belong to a House where time is measured in generations, where the governance model is based on custodianship and trusteeship, not ownership."

Professor Bhalla researches and teaches family business models at Cass. He commented: "Mr. Mewar's family has held legendary status in India over many centuries. His visit to Cass is of huge significance as business leaders in the City and beyond are facing an uphill battle to rebuild reputation and restore public trust. Senior executives have lessons to learn from Mr. Mewar's story. They need to think and act like custodians. If they can move away from short-term thinking and consider the implications of their actions in the long-term, they will be able to both create company and personal reputations that last and prosper".

Mr Mewar also met with Cass Dean Richard Gillingwater CBE and Deputy Dean, Professor Steve Haberman.  Mr Mewar was very interested to learn about the School's research (http://www.cass.city.ac.uk/research-and-faculty/research) looking at sustainable organisations and family firms.

Cass Business School's faculty (http://www.cass.city.ac.uk/research-and-faculty/faculties) comprises over 100 research-active experts. Many of which hold impressive academic credentials and a strong industry background including former senior economic advisors at the Bank of England, editors of influential journals, visiting professors in top-tier business schools, fellows of professional bodies and frequently-cited authors.

Forward-thinking research is fundamental to all members of the faculty and Cass (http://www.cass.city.ac.uk/more-about-cass/about-the-school) has an outstanding reputation in this area.  Cass experts advise governments, regulatory bodies and businesses. The research shapes policy and regulation and feeds into industry and the professions and is widely publicised in prestigious journals, international conferences and influential written and broadcast media.
