Oct. 29, 2012 - PRLog -- Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas will receive a $20,000 gift from Samsung to support its programs in East Texas on Nov. 1, at A.T. Stewart Middle School during the Girl Scouting in the School Day Program. Samsung and Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas officials and volunteers will be at the Tyler ISD, A.T. Stewart Middle School located at 2800 West Shaw Street in Tyler on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 10:30 a.m. for a check presentation and hands-on look at the Girl Scouting in the School Day program in action.

In the East Texas area, Samsung will be supporting Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas by making the following gifts:

·         $5,000 to Girl Scouting in the School Day to support at-risk middle school girls;

·         $5,000 scholarship to a girl who has received her Gold Award, the highest award achievable in Girl Scouting;

·         $5,000 scholarship for a local Tejas Rider, the premiere leadership and equestrian drill team program at Camp Bette Perot; and

·         $5,000 scholarship to support ‘camperships’ for girls to attend summer camp in 2013.

“Samsung is clearly an organization that supports the Girl Scout mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character,” said Colleen Walker, CEO for Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas. “We are appreciative of Samsung and their dedication to ‘To Get Her There’ – and the Girl Scout goal to remain the largest pipeline of female leadership in the world. The benefits from this generous gift will benefit the entire East Texas area because supporting these girls through Girl Scouting means that Samsung is investing in the future.”

“Samsung is excited to collaborate with the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas to provide funds to benefit girls who participate in the Girl Scouting in the School Day Program and offer scholarships to three girls who participate in the Tejas Riders and Campers programs and the Girl Scout Gold Awardee,” said Yong Seok Kim, PR Manager on behalf of Samsung. “The scholarships will benefit academically talented girls in the Girl Scouts in East Texas to help move them one step closer to reaching their college dreams.”

Girl Scouting in the School Day is an in-school, 12-week program for at-risk girls which provides character building and life skills training, while addressing current social issues and trends affecting girls during the most confusing transitional time of their childhood. Currently, there are more than 1,000 girls throughout East Texas involved in the Girl Scouting in the School Day Program.

In 2012, seven Girl Scouts in East Texas, and more than 230 girls across the Northeast Texas council, earned their 80-hour, community service-oriented Gold Award. Gold Award projects range from developing community gardens to creating fully sustainable charitable support programs.

The Tejas Riders Equestrian Leadership Team, operating out of Girl Scout Camp Bette Perot in Athens, TX, is an exemplary leadership program for girls, and boasts a 100 percent high school graduation rate and 98 percent of the girls go on to pursue higher education.

Girl Scout camps in Northeast Texas host more than 10,000 girls ever year and allow girls to gain leadership skills while participating in the 100-year-old Girl Scout outdoor leadership experience. The ‘camperships’ provided by Samsung will provide financial assistance for girls in East Texas who could not attend Girl Scout summer camp without that support.
