When Tyran III explodes into cosmic rubble, Dogan MacRae, human and Kereth, a golden Tyran are flung into the vastness of space. After a journey of many weeks, their small scout ship is wrecked against the cliffs of Culdara. Kereth is injured and Dogan, exhausted from carrying her to a safe (http://www.summersolsticepublishing.com/nighthawk/)place find refuge in a small cave. When Dogan is attacked by a cliff panther, he manages to kill the animal with his last bit of strength then collapses beside Kereth in the cave. The refugees are rescued by Nighthawk and her small companion, Thykar. Nighthawk takes them to Sanctuary, where the adventures of Dogan and Kereth continue as they build new lives on Culdara.

Growing up in a nearsighted world, reading was always an adventure. It is important to read in order to learn in school and later to succeed in ones chosen occupation, but the real adventures come when reading is done because it’s fun.

         I have always enjoyed stories of adventures, whether on the range with cowboys, at sea on sailing ships, or in space on other worlds. I also like to try to solve the mystery before the end of the book. So, even though I chose to work in something besides writing, I wrote in my spare time, creating my own worlds and choosing the people who live there.

         I earned a BS in education from Ball State, a degree in nursing (http://www.summersolsticepublishing.com/naida-kirkpatrick/) from Purdue University and have completed several writing courses from the Institute of Children’s Literature and The Long Ridge Writers Group. I am a Hoosier, having lived in Indiana all my life. I have a large family of children and grandchildren. At birthdays and Christmas I’m the grandma who gives the books or magazine subscriptions instead of toys with batteries with the hope that they’ll learn to enjoy reading just for the pleasure of the adventure.

         Nighthawk is my first book with Summer Solstice Publishing. I have another middle grade mystery novel, Adventure at Lookout Farm, three non-fiction books about ancient civilizations, and a soon to be released fantasy trilogy. I look forward to continuing the adventures of my characters in Nighthawk’s world.
