Krav Maga - Los Angeles, California

Oct. 29, 2012 - PRLog -- Originally taught only in Israel, Krav Maga has become recognized as the best defense system in the world.

Located in one of the most volatile areas of the world, Israel was declared a country in 1948, just as the Krav Maga system was getting started. It was developed for the men and women who serve in the Israeli military, known as the IDF (Israel Defense Forces). The Commanders of the IDF understood that for the newly drafted Israeli soldiers, any of the traditional martial art systems would take far too long for these new recruits to learn. They also realized that the world of modern urban combat, which these soldiers would be fighting in, had become a completely different place from the 18th Century Far-east Asian environment that most of these systems were originally created for. Circumstances required a system of fighting for these drastically outnumbered troops that was as efficient to learn in training, as it was effective to use in combat.

The IDF turned to an expert, with a background in wrestling, boxing, and weight training, named Imi Lichtenfeld (אמריך “אימי” ליכטנפלד) to develop the rugged and ruthless fighting style known as Krav Maga. He is universally recognized as the creator of this system of combat survival.

Now, in the 21st Century, Krav Maga continues to remain on the cutting edge of training efficiency and combat effectiveness. Through the years, the IDF has maintained its tradition of recruiting the very best talent, in the most effective forms of fighting systems that the world has to offer. These individuals are handpicked by the IDF from a variety of different backgrounds: Israeli Jujitsu, Maui Thai, Judo, Krav Maga, Mixed Martial Arts, and more. They are recruited into the IDF, and form the next generation of Krav Maga instructors.

The Krav Maga of today is very different from the Krav Maga of 1948. And likewise, the Krav Maga taught in the IDF is far more advanced than what you will find in your local Krav Maga studios around the world.
