Real Mobile Marketing Opportunity Missed by Both Romney and Obama

A renowned mobile marketing expert explains how and why both candidates could improve existing mobile marketing political campaigns to appeal to independents

Oct. 16, 2012 - PRLog -- MIAMI, FL – In a recent Marketing event in Miami, Florida, Independent Business Advisor Andrew Cass offered valuable insight about the positioning taken by both presidential campaigns regarding the new mobile marketing opportunity. In his opinion, both parties seem to be underestimating the new trend by not fully exploiting it, which could cost winning the election. Cass believes that since there isn’t a clear lead on the presidential race, the victory will be decided by the ability to convince voters that seem to still be undecided; and that’s where a mobile marketing political campaign could make all the difference.

When speaking to small business owners, Cass shared his opinion that a real opportunity might be “slipping through both candidates’ fingers, in a moment when any advantage is likely desirable”. His logic was: “currently, both Obama and Romney mobile marketing efforts have revolved primarily around providing information to supporters.  Although there is inherently nothing wrong with these activities, they are dealing with those individuals that have already picked their candidate.” He then presented the audience with a pertinent point of view and a questioning: “the vote from those still undecided is what will swing this election; so why not, in addition to strengthening their relationship with existing voters, also create mobile marketing campaigns that will also go after those sitting on the fence?”

Although suggesting a different approach, Cass noted that both campaigns have utilized some strong mobile strategies. For example, Mitt Romney’s app offered the advantage of learning about the candidate’s running mate, several hours in advance; while Obama’s Blippar app enables solid engagement with existing supporters, including a feature that generates a personalized picture of the user giving the President a high five.

Despite the features and functions already in place, Andrew Cass seemed to have a more comprehensive view of what the mobile marketing political campaign could actually be. As an expert in the area and co-founder of RemarkaMobile, a company that specializes in mobile marketing, Cass was asked to give an example of an alternative mobile strategy that could be followed by either or both parties.  His response was: “Undecided voters are concerned about individual issues.  What if, for example, the Romney campaign created an app that provided a list of these issues, along with up to the minute quotes from each side regarding the issue?  This would provide a great value to the swing voters and at the same time allow Romney to position his stance in the best light for these types of voters.”

Cass’s political strategy insight comes from his business view of the subject, which includes building customer lists and successfully developing text-marketing strategies to target that audience. “Using the same list building strategies we create for small businesses, the political campaigns would even have the ability to further market to those who downloaded the app, through SMS text and email.”

RemarkaMobile offers strategy sessions to coach and service small businesses seeking to take part in the mobile marketing trend.  Because of the increased demand for mobile marketing services, the company is also growing, and now offering a certification program nationwide, for entrepreneurs interested in becoming regional Mobile Marketing Advisors in their area.
