BEWARE: The Dangers of Financial & Time Freedom Hype Working from Home

Oct. 13, 2012 - PRLog -- To have financial and time freedom are two things I’ve been inspired to reach since I heard them from a network marketer at some hotel conference room of about 200 people some years ago.

The home based business was known as YTB or Your Travel Biz.

You know when you watch those infomercials and the enthusiastic voice speaking just keeps going on and on about how great of a deal it is? How they swear that if it’s not going to meet your needs then you can just send it back for a full refund and keep their little gift? They even throw in the line, “if you call now, you’ll get your second or third, or whatever for free.”

I can only laugh about it now but, just like those infomercials I was sucked into the financial and time freedom hype, because I wanted it. I really wanted it. However, wanting it wasn’t the problem.

In fact wanting it was the only thing that pushed me to join the other companies I’ve named below.

Anyway, I was also motivated because my family and I needed the extra income. I wanted to be able to travel whenever I felt like it.  I wanted to be able to support my family whenever they needed my help. I wanted to be my own boss. I wanted to work from home. I can go on and on, because I wanted a lot.

Then I woke up. Or at least I felt like I was dreaming, because after I signed up that night I had no idea what to do next. Yeah I could call my sponsor, but every time it was really no more than a couple suggestions and a good luck.

Furthermore, it wasn’t just Your Travel Biz that I got involved with. There was this Internet Treasure Chest company where you sold things online. There was Avon, There was Amway. There was DrinkACT. There was this one called Beyond Organic. And I even found these online things called My Power Mall and Big crumbs.  

All of which I was inspired to join and make a little extra money. So I signed up. I signed up because I was determined to have financial and time freedom.

The problem however was that after I was sponsored into these businesses, I had no idea what came next. The inspiration and motivating thoughts of having financial and time freedom became a mirage in that I never got any closer to it.

In fact, after I left one business for the next, I was really spreading my commitment pretty thin, making the next business opportunity that much harder for me to work well.

In the end I lost a lot of money and time. No matter how hard I tried to sell the products; no matter how hard I tried to invite people to a “party” and promote my business; no matter how hard I pushed my friends and family, which actually drove us further apart; everything I tried just simply failed. It failed after it created chaos of me not knowing what I should have done next.
