AUTHOR SIGMUND BROUWER ROCK AND ROLLS LITERACY AT BEREAN CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

Tuesday, October 9, best-selling author Sigmund Brouwer engaged the parents and students of Berean Christian School using music and story to teach literacy.

Mr. Brouwer showed students that the “love of writing begins with the love of story.”  Sigmund Brouwer dedicates much of his time to speaking at schools, trying to help reluctant readers discover the joy of writing.  "Once I found that talking to children about writing could open doors for them, I've been committed to doing that, and I will continue to do so. Kids who can read and write well when they get out of school have a lot better chance of reaching their dreams than kids who still struggle with it."

“We are very excited and honored to have Mr. Brouwer at Berean,” said George Waller, Berean Christian’s headmaster.  “Reading and writing is at the heart of developing lifelong learners, which we want to foster in our students.”  Having Sigmund Brouwer here to partner with us in showing students that reading and writing is not only fun, but also an important part of being a successful learner, is an amazing opportunity.”

In the two days since his visit, many discussions around campus have focused on how to reach and teach students that struggle with literacy.  What Brouwer presented seems to have a far reaching impact.  Engaging these students through their hearts will impact their literacy and have a lasting impact on the whole person!
