Is Your Cleaning Service Lying?

Do a search for a cleaning service, you will find that 96% claim to be Green. That is important since this does affect your health, but did you know as little as 5% of cleaning services are honest about their Green value?

Oct. 5, 2012 - PRLog -- More than 90% of cleaning services use the infamous "String Mop" that spread dirt and contamination from room to room.  Most vacuums are not HEPA.  Acid-based bowl cleaners are flushed into the sanitary system.  And, 99% of workers have no idea of how to clean in a green manner?

Yet, you will find that 96% of all cleaning services claim to be Green.  This is a huge disparity, and we'd like to think that this was just innocent ignorance on the subject.

Ignorance maybe, innocent no!  There is a 36% increase in customer opinion of Green products and services.  Given a choice, people will choose the Green alternative as long as brand and price is not their top consideration.  As Green products now strongly compete on price, and they work very well.

Cleaning companies are anxious to impress potential customers, and it is simple to give the impression that the company is Green.  A few changes to the website or brochure, and the world thinks they are Green.  The truth is we are awash with Green pretenders, and the good companies are diluted in a sea of greenwashing.

The Green Clean Institute is opposed to the popular trend of self-appointed Green claims.  The best companies deserve a better way to show their value.  Even the EPA promotes "Environmentally Preferred Purchasing" by companies, but with so many hollow claims, how can consumers decide who is real and who is Green?

The Green Clean Institute maintains a Janitorial Directory 9http://www.greencleaninstitutedirectory.com) that lists only Green certified firms.  No one can pay for a listing.  Each firm must earn its way by education and implementation of Green cleaning protocols.

If your cleaning service is not on this list, chances are they are not as Green as they claim?  Ask, "Who certifies that you are Green?"  If you get a shallow excuse, look for a company with better integrity and higher levels of service.

Green does not come in a bottle that is loaded on the cleaning cart.  It comes when workers know how to clean Green and the company makes it a priority.  Follow the EPA guideline and hire only a "Green Certified" Green cleaning service.
