Oct. 5, 2012 - PRLog -- According to a recent study released by the (http://www.michigandeercrash.org/index.html) Michigan Deer Crash Coalition (MDCC), in Michigan, in 2011, there were 53,592 car-deer accidents, down from 55,867 crashes in 2010.  In 2011, eight people were killed in vehicle-deer crashes and another 1,464 suffered serious injury.  The months of October and November are the two highest months for car-deer accidents. The five counties where these types of accidents occurred most, in 2011, include Kent County (1,750), Oakland County (1,736), Jackson County (1,536), Calhoun County (1,429), and Montcalm County (1,340).

In addition, it was found that car-deer accidents are costly. In Michigan, vehicle-deer crashes cost at least $130 million per year; the average insurance claim is about $2,100 in damage, usually to the front of the vehicle, which often leaves it undriveable.
