By: Aurion Learning All About Us won the prestigious ‘Most Inspirational Idea’ Award. This award is given to the project that was most outstanding in terms of impact, innovation and insight. All About Us aims to help the personal development and knowledge of people with learning disabilities around sex, sexuality and relationships. It provides a self-study learning tool that can be used by someone with learning disabilities on their own, or with support, to introduce key issues including understanding emotions, keeping safe, what it means to become an adult, and appropriate behaviour in public and private spaces. All About Us complements the delivery of sex and relationships education in the home, school, and other learning environments. It comes with British sign language interpreter option. All About Us costs £19.99 and is available from the FPA online shop at www.fpa.org.uk Speaking about the award, Audrey Simpson, Director of FPA in Northern Ireland said: “We’re thrilled to have won the Award and so proud of this resource. The response from people with learning disabilities, parents and professionals has been tremendous. People with learning disabilities have the right, capacity and freedom to enjoy and express their sexuality without exploitation, oppression, physical and emotional harm. This right is often denied to people with learning disability which is why we produced All About Us. ” All About Us enables people with learning disability to get the important information and support they need on sex, sexuality and relationships increasing their capacity to develop strong relationship bonds and develop personal and social resilience. People with learning disabilities using the CD will help develop confidence in looking after themselves, negotiating all kinds of relationships and understanding their physical and emotional development as sexual beings. Dr Maureen Murphy, Managing Director of Aurion Learning said: “All About Us has been used by FPA in training events for professionals who work with people with learning disabilities in countries such as Latvia and Macedonia. It has attracted international markets in New Zealand, Australia and the Czech Republic and several countries such as Iceland, Latvia and Israel have expressed an interest in translating it for use in their countries.
