Oct. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- LOS ANGELES (October 2, 2012) – MediaMine has won the DAMMY Award for Best Strategy or Solution for Digital and Media Asset Management during the Acquisition of Content for their work on Norman Seeff’s collection. The Award is designed to recognize innovative workflows at the content acquisition or creation stage that demonstrates strategic understanding of asset management from concept and development through implementation. The DAMMY Awards are the only awards that recognize excellence in digital asset management. The presentation took place at the Third Annual DAMMY Awards luncheon in New York.

“We are thrilled to receive this recognition, and be among the companies honored at the DAMMYs this year,” said Barry Snyder, co-founder and president of MediaMine. “The DAMMYs are important because they represent acknowledgement from the community of digital asset management. It means so much to us to receive this honor from our peers, the leading experts in the field. Our goal with Norman Seeff is to bring an amazing, underutilized collection into the digital world and make it accessible in new ways.”

MediaMine is a digital media asset management company that consults with content and brand owners, such as Seeff, to fully realize the potential of their assets. Seeff’s prolific work as a photographer and filmmaker focuses on the exploration of human creativity and the inner dynamics of the creative process. The Seeff moving picture catalogue encompasses an archive of roughly 400 filmed sessions with some of the greatest artists and minds of the 20th century. The library includes never-before-seen footage from Seeff’s “The Sessions Project.” These behind-the-scenes conversations with musicians, celebrities, filmmakers, athletes, innovators, politicians and philanthropists constitute a comprehensive exploration of the creative process.

MediaMine has devised a four-phase process to oversee and supervise the organization, digitization, transcription and monetization of the Seeff collection. This includes assessing the legacy collection, and determining the ultimate use for the assets; evaluating immediate possibilities for repurposing content; identifying short-term format needs and building a scalable plan to accommodate future opportunities, and the execution and actual digitization, transcription, encoding, metadata, storage and archiving of the elements. MediaMine is currently in the process of creating a secure, Internet-based clip library of 800 hours of footage where third parties will be able to search, access and purchase the newly digitized content.

Snyder adds that MediaMine is overcoming several challenges on the Seeff project. “We are carefully and securely handling various file formats, culling through unlabeled elements, and identifying the best quality masters to piece together. We are also listening to every word that was spoken during an interview or session to develop robust metadata with keywords for maximum searchability of the media database.”
Other brands and content owners partnering with MediaMine include the Carson Entertainment Group, Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner’s Theatricalz, Don Rickles, and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, among others.

“What’s old is new again, and we are excited by the possibilities of partnering with collection owners – whether private, public, enterprise, government, publishing, or educational – to revitalize, repurpose, and monetize their media assets,” adds Snyder.
