Oct. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- New York, NY USA-- Saran Kaba Jones, Founder and Executive Director of FACE Africa, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing access to safe drinking water in rural Liberia, was selected as a recipient of the Longines and Town&Country Magazine “Women Who Make a Difference” award. The award celebrates extraordinary women, nominated by their peers, who positively impact children's lives through philanthropy. The selection was granted by Town&Country Magazine and Swiss watch manufacturer Longines, in recognition of Ms. Kaba Jones' commitment to clean water initiatives that have benefited thousands of residents in Liberia to date - many of whom are children residing in underserved rural communities.

Ms. Kaba Jones was recognized along with two other honorees at the September 27th awards dinner held at Hearst Tower in New York City and hosted by tennis legend Stefanie Graf. All three women and their respective organizations will also be featured in a portfolio piece in the February 2013 issue of Town&Country Magazine.

“I am extremely humbled to be recognized by Longines and Town&Country Magazine for my work in Liberia,” says Ms. Kaba Jones. “To be recognized by such a household name like Longines is truly incredible and I am so grateful to them for shining the spotlight on the work that FACE Africa does. I will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that safe drinking water for all is a reality in Liberia, where 2600 children under the age of five die every year from water related diseases.”

During her acceptance speech, Ms. Kaba Jones spoke about the clean water crisis in Liberia and its impact on women and children. She thanked guests for their attendance and encouraged them to support FACE Africa efforts in Liberia where $25 can provide safe drinking water to a person for a number of years.

Ms. Kaba Jones, a staunch clean water and women’s advocate was recently appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for the county of RiverCess, one of the poorest and least developed counties in Liberia. In her new role, she will encourage and promote business and philanthropic investments throughout the county, beginning with FACE Africa's 'County by County’ Commitment, which will construct 250 clean water wells in RiverCess by 2017. The initiative, scheduled to begin in late 2012, will provide complete water coverage to the county, benefiting over 60,000 men, women and children.

The other two 2012 "Longines Women Who Make a Difference" award recipients are:

Liz Ferro, Founder and Executive Director of Girls with Sole, an organization that helps young women who have experienced sexual and physical abuse raise their self-esteem through a variety of fitness and wellness programs.

Dr. Pam Cantor, Founder and CEO of Turnaround for Children, and organization that addresses the profound influence of adversity and trauma on children's ability to learn in high-poverty, low-performing schools.
