City's Deputy Vice-Chancellor to Advise the Greek Government on Energy Policy

Oct. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- City University London's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International & Development), Professor Constantine (Dinos) Arcoumanis, has been appointed Ambassador-at-Large of the Hellenic Republic with responsibility for Energy Policy and New Technologies. Professor Arcoumanis is to be based in London, continuing in his role at City and advising the Greek Government on its emerging energy policy on a pro bono basis. He was sworn in at a ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens on Friday 21st September 2012.

Professor Arcoumanis commented: "I am very pleased to have been appointed Ambassador-at-Large of the Hellenic Republic for Energy Policy and New Technologies, an area so important for Greece's recovery from the present financial crisis and very much within my personal and professional sphere of interest. Greece has plenty of untapped natural resources which can be efficiently exploited for the benefit of its citizens, the national and European economy, and a Government particularly sensitive to facilitate investment in energy exploration programmes".

Professor Arcoumanis holds many international awards for his work on energy and related technologies and in 2001 he was elected Fellow of both the Royal Academy of Engineering and the International Society of Automotive Engineers. He holds several international professorships and has previously advised the European Union on transportation policy.

Professor Arcoumanis joined City University London (http://www.city.ac.uk/about) in 2000 as Dean of the School of Engineering & Mathematical Sciences (http://www.city.ac.uk/engineering-maths) and was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor in 2008. He was previously Professor of Internal Combustion Engines at Imperial College, London. Professor Arcoumanis is renowned for his extensive research into cavitation - the formation and immediate implosion of cavities in a liquid as a consequence of forces acting upon the liquid. His activities in the area culminated in the establishment of The Lloyd's Register Educational Trust (LRET) International Institute for Cavitation Research at City in 2012, where he serves as its first Director.

Commenting on Professor Arcoumanis's appointment, City University London's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Curran said: "This is a significant honour for Dinos and for City University London. It is recognition of his international academic standing and the contribution he has made to the development of knowledge in energy and related technologies. I congratulate Dinos and also the Hellenic Republic on their visionary appointment. I know Dinos will play a key role in supporting the Greek Government in the development of its energy policy."
