According to the creator and author of Sista Ninja and filmaker of What Matters Film, Edward Ball says, "the story takes place after the tragic death of Linda, Stacey, and Connie's parents. Being raised by an Asian and Black couple, the girls are raised in the way of the ancient arts. When they become of age, they are summoned by the power of the dragon's claw. Once bestowed the powers of this great dragon's claw, the girls go on to find out just how valuable they have become, not only to themselves, but the city they reside in. Freshly starting college at Life University the sisters must deal with the struggles of everyday life while also battling the biggest forces known and unknown to man. "

Because women all over the globe are strong and successful even after dealing with obstacles like bullying in school, growing up in a single family household, domestic violence, fighting against substance abuse, or dealing with cancer, Sista Ninja focus more so on "women of power"; because every woman on this planet are superheroes.
