The Fire is twice as heavy to hold as the basic kindle. The screens and menus are often so small that a stylus is really needed to operate the small type and menu selections without becoming very frustrated by the touch screen. The screen TOUCH sensitivity is not adjustable, also making a stylus almost a requirement to operate the touch screen if your hands (fingers) are medium to large in size. For older senior persons i would advise going with the keyboard version if it is available and purchasing the warranty extension as my 2nd generation screen failed after 16 months of careful treatment. The support on the web and through the company is as good as it gets. The colors are impressive but for seniors the screen is too small for movies. The mp3 downloads did not go to the cloud as the web promised. Probably good for non challenged computer youth of today. A tablet size touch screen unit is probably better choice for grandmothers age 74 or up.
