Intensive Course Prepares HR Professionals for Certification Exam

Aug. 30, 2012 - PRLog -- ST. LOUIS – University of Missouri–St. Louis offers human resource professionals a prep course to increase their readiness to sit for the PHR® and SPHR® exams. The intensive 13-day course is Tuesdays and Thursdays, select weeks between September 27 and December 13, 2012, in the J.C. Penney Conference Center at UMSL. Offered in partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM®), the curriculum is designed by subject matter experts, covers the most up-to-date HR Certification Institute Body of Knowledge and ranks as the number one certification preparation program for consistently helping professionals beat the national pass rate.

The program is designed for HR professionals planning to take the PHR or SPHR certification exam, companies who value enhanced professionalism in the human resource function, experienced managers new to human resource management, PHR professionals seeking to upgrade their certification to SPHR, HR professionals who value career growth and a deeper understanding of the entire HR body of knowledge, certified PHR and SPHR professionals who want to earn credit toward recertification.

The course covers six functional areas, responsibilities and associated knowledge defined by the Human Resource Certification Institute. Sessions will focus on strategic business management, workforce planning and employment, human resource development, compensation and benefits, employee and labor relations, and risk management.

The 2012 SHRM Learning System is filled with new features including innovative SmartStudy tools that help streamline study time and build confidence for passing the certification exam. The Online Learning Center includes assessments to identify topics a participant already knows and those areas that require more time and attention. Results are given to identify learning priorities, create a personal study plan, estimate study time and apply learned knowledge. The Online Learning Center also includes tests and post-test results to validate learning and refine study plans. In addition, interactive case studies feature real-life scenarios and questions to apply your knowledge.

Participants who attend and actively engage in all sessions, meeting SHRM’s prescribed requirements, will be awarded 3.5 continuing education units and a noncredit Chancellor’s Certificate from UMSL, as well as an SHRM certificate of completion.

All sessions are located in the J.C. Penney Conference Center at UMSL and run from 5:30-8:20 p.m. Students must use the most recent edition of the SHRM educational products for this course.
