How far do Yorkshire folk go to get away from it all? About five miles

Aug. 24, 2012 - PRLog -- For the past ten years, two spritely pensioners from Silsden have packed their suitcase and headed for their favourite holiday destination - exactly five miles down the road at Skipton’s Rendezvous Hotel.

Over the past decade, Gordon and Betty Whitham have notched up around fifty stays at the hotel. Since then, the plucky pensioners have stayed at the Rendezvous to celebrate every birthday, wedding anniversary and simply to “get away from it all”. Their most recent visits were to mark the occasion of their forty-eighth wedding anniversary on 29th July and again two weeks later to celebrate Mr Whitham’s eightieth birthday on August 12th.

Mrs Whitham, who works part time in her local Coop, says she and Gordon need travel no further for a complete get-away.

“We simply love staying at the Rendezvous. The minute we walk in, we feel like we’re on holiday”, she said.

“The hotel has a restaurant overlooking the canal and we always eat there. It’s a wonderfully peaceful place to dine while watching boats and swans drift by.”, she added.
