Follow on Google News | Gold Medal and Chairman's Best of Class Awards for Clarksburg WineryOn Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22, 2012, the Long Beach International Grand Cru Wine Competition concluded. This competition is one of the top wine competitions in the United States.
Scribner Bend Vineyards entered two wines into this competition. They won medals for both wines. They won a Gold medal for their 2011 Novantina Fiano and they won a Chairman's Best of Class for their 2009 Tempranillo. Judging is structured as a double-blind process. Each wine is given a number which remains with that wine from the beginning of the judging process to the end. Wines are judged by panels of four people. Each panel judges about 100-120 wines each day. Wines are not judged on price categories, but rather on subtlety, delicacy, varietal character, terroir and breeding of the wine. This competition is unique in that it is a fund-raiser. Funds raised benefit the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles. This foundation provides legal help for low income and poor families, battered women and children, and seniors. The Foundation also conducts educational programs and community outreach.
