Local Founder of Lovin’ Spoonfuls Named Oxfam’s Sisters on the Planet Ambassador

July 20, 2012 - PRLog -- (BOSTON, MA)— On July 13th, 2012 Ashley Stanley, the founder and executive director of Boston-based non-profit Lovin’ Spoonfuls was named one of Oxfam America’s Sisters on the Planet ambassadors, a group of prominent women in the U.S. including leaders in business, philanthropy and civic organizations who recognize the disproportionate impact of poverty and hunger on the poor, specifically women and children, and work with Oxfam International and women worldwide to fight poverty and hunger. As a Sisters on the Planet ambassador, Stanley will have a prominent voice in the international fight against hunger, and will help implement Lovin’ Spoonfuls successful food rescue model in Haiti and Africa, where the disparity in food distribution is overwhelming.

Since 2010, Lovin’ Spoonfuls has successfully rescued over 100,000 lbs of perishable, unserved food from farms, supermarkets, restaurants and other retail outlets and delivered it to local crisis centers and social assistance organizations so they can feed wholesome, healthy food to those who need it the most. As a Sisters on the Planet member, Stanley will be join the ranks of other high-profile women dedicated to promoting social justice through food access, including: Annie Lennox; alumnus Ambassador Hilda Solis, Secretary of U.S. Dept. of Labor; Jody Williams, Nobel Laureate and Founder of International Campaign to Ban Landmines; and Nancy Kaufman, CEO National Council of Jewish Women, to name a few. Both Stanley and Lovin’ Spoonfuls will be given an international platform and resources to not only move one step closer to eradicating hunger in Massachusetts, but across the globe.
