July 16, 2012 - PRLog -- A co-owner of Ovations Food Services (http://www.ovationsfoodservices.com), one of the largest food and beverage providers in the United States, broke Jimmy Buffet's Guinness world record for the World's Largest Cocktail which was made at Margaritaville in Las Vegas in 2011. http://youtu.be/XjGgwKQC0-o

Nick Nicora of Ovations Food Services partnered with Ricardo Hussong, owner of Cantina Hussong's to break the world record during the California State Fair at Cal Expo in Sacramento (http://www.bigfun.org).

The original Margarita was first invented at Cantina Hussong's in Ensinada, Mexico in 1940. By 1941, it had become a popular drink throughout Europe, then became popular in the United States. Today, the drink is served in many variations, but is still one of the world's most popular cocktails.

"Taking claim of the Guinness world record for the largest Calarita Margarita cocktail from an institution like Margaritaville is nothing short of extraordinary," said Christopher Ford, Co-Founder at Stitches 'n Dishes (http://www.stitchesndishes.com). "Coordinating the resources necessary to pull this off required razor sharp attention to detail, and probably the mind of a mad scientist."

Nicora says that claiming the world record was a community effort.

"We reached out to the community, and the community reached back. It can't be just me; it can't be just Ricardo. It's got to be the whole team. It's pretty exciting. I've got to tell you what's amazing about it is how many people came together to do this," he said.

Official witnesses for Guinness were on hand throughout the day at the California State Fair at Cal Expo in Sacramento where the new record was set. They will provide sworn, written testimony to Guinness in order to verify that appropriate measuring equipment and proper ingredients were used, and procedures were followed.

Nicora's victory brings Sacramento its fifth world record since 1979.

Previous records in Sacramento include, the world's longest ping-pong tournament, the longest distance to water ski on bare hands, the heaviest woman alive, and most recently, the most expensive hot dog sold.

Nicora's 10,500 gallon cocktail was poured into a 25-foot tall, 20 horse power blender made by Westec Tank and Equipment Co. (http://www.westectank.com) by More than 20 volunteers and members of a charity organization.

A precise balance of ingredients was necessary in order to insure that each of the 134,000 Calarita margaritas dispensed from the taps tasted as if they were made individually. The cocktail's recipe included 4,650 bottles – 2,100 gallons – of Jose Cuervo Gold Tacquila, and 8,400 gallons of margarita mix, with 50 gallons of lime mix, and 20 gallons of Cointreau liqueur.

This is not Nicora's first entry in the Guinness Book of Records. The massive margarita joins Nicora's "World's Largest Commercially Available Hamburger," the record for which was set at the Alameda County Fair over the Independence Day weekend, 2011. The burger weighed in at 777 pounds.

Nicora's youngest son, Andrew Nicora, co-founder of Stitches 'n Dishes began announcing his father's planned attempt to break the record last week in Twitter conversations using hash tag #Calarita.

Nicora's prized cocktail recipe yields 134,000 Calarita Margaritas and beats Buffet's 8,500 gallon record set in 2011 by 2,000 gallons. Nicora and Hussong kicked off happy hour at the Cantina Hussong's Cal Expo location immediately following their claim to victory. The World's Largest Margarita will be served at the California State Fair, Cal Expo in Sacramento in souvenir cups and shakers until July 31, 2012.
