While Christians throughout Southeast Asia will celebrate Maundy Thursday on April 5th, 2012, the Philippines is the only country in Southeast Asia which recognizes it as an official holiday. The Philippines is one of only seven countries in the world that recognizes Maundy Thursday as an official holiday.

Maundy Thursday, the Christian holy day which takes place on the Thursday before Easter, is an important celebration for many Filipinos. Traditional holiday ceremonies are inspired by the events that occurred the night Jesus observed Passover with the disciples.
