WPSL Elite League Confirms Dates and Times for Championship Series
WPSL Elite and Sahlen's Stadium Will Provide Live Feed and Updates for USWNT Olympic Match on Saturday, July 28 Thanks to Western New York Flash
By: WPSL News Desk
The Semi-Final matches will take place at Sahlen’s stadium in Rochester, NY, on Wednesday, July 25, with the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds playing at 5:00 p.m. and the No. 1 and No. 4 seeds playing at 8:00 p.m.
The Championship Final will take place on Saturday, July 28, at 1:00 p.m. as previously announced. Recently there had been rumors that the final would be postponed because of a conflict with the U.S. Women’s National Team match against Columbia at the 2012 London Olympics. Every effort has been made to avoid this conflict as America celebrates women’s soccer at the highest levels at home and abroad.
Unfortunately, prior commitments and logistics for both the stadium and the teams involved in the WPSL Elite Championship Series made a change in scheduling impossible. Because of this, WPSL Elite and Sahlen’s Stadium will provide a live feed of the USWNT match as well as live updates throughout the championship final.
While the WPSL Elite Championship schedule was not released until recently, the semi-final and final games had been scheduled prior to the official release of the USWNT Olympic match schedule. Because of a previously scheduled Major League Lacrosse match, televised on ESPN at 4:00 p.m. ET, the game time could not be pushed back. Moving the final match to Sunday was deemed not a viable option due to costs involved and travel needs for the teams playing.
The WPSL apologizes to soccer fans for the conflict between the WPSL Elite Championship Series and the USWNT Olympic match. We hope that fans of the beautiful game will come out to Sahlen’s Stadium to enjoy both live elite soccer action and the televised Olympic game.
