June 28, 2012 - PRLog -- For over 30 years, Mick Riley and Gary Trotta worked for a Fortune 500 corporation improving their sales, training and operations by developing software applications. Eventually, they retired from the corporate world to become entrepreneurs using their knowledge of training and software to create PowerPoint games and applications. Gary states, “We've learned a lot about how people learn and how games can be developed to enhance learning, attention and retention.”

Gary and Mick understand that many academic and corporate training programs are less effective because they fail to get participants involved in the materials being presented. They joined forces in 2003 to help develop products that give teachers and trainers the ability to incorporate their review materials into fun, professionally developed participative games. There began the concept of Training Games Inc.

Studies indicate that up to 70% of the information presented within the first ten minutes of a lecture is retained; however, this quickly drops to 20% or less for the remainder of the presentation.  Actually this follows the brain’s basic learning principles.

The brain works in periods of high attention and then powers down, attempting to consolidate the information recently taken in.  Shortly after a presentation begins, usually about 10 minutes, the audience starts to drift off and lose focus.  A good trainer realizes this dynamic and employs methods (such as a game) to refocus their audience’s attention. Continuing this cycle allows the presenter to get through all their material and improves the audience’s retention rate.

Based on this knowledge, TGI constructs games that allow trainers to switch between their training material and the game quickly and easily. The intent is to use the game to capture the participants' attention, and then allow the presenter to continue to train.

To date, TGI has created dozens of games and innovative applications to incorporate into presentations. Their latest product, Presentation Game 6, offers 130 different interactive game slides including all the bells and whistles that get people involved and excited about learning.

The product is quite robust, but at the same time very easy to use, requiring almost no learning curve. The Presentation Game can be easily integrated into an existing presentation to make it more engaging, more participative and more fun!   At the same time, because of increased audience attention, it improves the overall retention of the information being presented.

The Presentation Game is a PowerPoint add-in, which means once installed, it is available from your PowerPoint menu every time you open PowerPoint.  There are over 130 different interactive game slides that can be easily inserted into any presentation. The Presentation Game slides have been designed to adopt the format of your existing presentation, so that the completed presentation game appears seamless.

The many different slides include game elements like question grids, question/survey formats (multiple choice, true false) scoreboards, spinning/prize wheels, point and player selectors, mini-games (slides that incorporate popular quiz show themes such as Family Feud, 100,000 Dollar Pyramid, Wheel of Fortune, as well as other popular games like Word Search and Bingo).

Other Presentation Game slides include special enhancements like musical/animated intros and finales, icebreakers, break timers, prize selectors, and certificates of achievement.  You can even add items to any individual slide such as a question timer, borders or fast response buzzer boxes.

The Presentation Game will work perfectly with TGI’s Who’s First and Me First Fast Response Buzzer Systems.  In addition, the new Presentation Game includes a slide navigation bar to allow for quick transitions between your game slides and presentation.

TGI’s new Presentation Game infuses interactivity into your presentation converting it from an instructor-centered presentation to an audience-centered activity.  The end result is increased fun, participation and learning.
