| Farm worker survives fatal explosionA former farm worker, Arek Kuchczynski, has been awarded substantial compensation from one of the top commercial vegetable growers in the South West for severe injuries he suffered at the farm.
By: ADPR On 11 May 2010, when the farm labourer had been working at Brandon Farm for nearly four years, six workers were carrying out routine maintenance to a tank of compressed air when it suddenly exploded. Five people were badly injured and one person was killed. Mr Kuchczynski suffered from horrific head injuries and first degree burns, which resulted in his needing extensive skin grafts. Mr Kuchczynski was initially taken to Musgrove Hospital in Taunton but was then flown to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol by air ambulance – such was the seriousness of his condition. Mr Kuchczynski, who has surprised doctors with his excellent recovery, says, “I am just so pleased to still be here. The accident was awful and I want to put it all behind me now. Pardoes was recommended to me and I have been delighted with the service and advice I have received. They were professional, helpful and extremely knowledgeable as well as being very quick to respond to my questions.” Advising Mr Kuchczynski was Jonathan Rich, Pardoes’ Head of Personal Injury, who said, “I am thrilled that Arek has recovered so well from the accident and I am delighted that the case came to an acceptable and speedy result, with Arek receiving appropriate recompense for the serious injuries he has sustained.” Pardoes is a well-established South West legal firm, with 15 partners and 95 staff across its Bridgwater, Yeovil and Taunton offices. It offers a full range of legal services and has expanded many of its specialist sectors in the past two years. During that time new partners have been appointed to head up its core business divisions in the fields of private client, family, property, litigation and commercial and employment work. End
