June 6, 2012 - PRLog -- CEO and founder Tinker Barnett announces that Bridges LLC has moved forward with services that teach young Generation Y (Gen Yers) ages 16 to 31, interpersonal communication and customer service skills that companies value and create job security for themselves. It is four classes beginning June 11, 2012, for ages 14 through 25, at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado. www.MakeLifeReal.com

GenLinks – “Make Life Real”, is a new program that teaches Gen Yers the skills employers say they are short on - manners, humility, initiative, getting along with others, and face-to-face communications. These ‘soft’ skills are necessary for giving customers a pleasant and satisfactory experience. And yet, Gen Yers lack confidence in the unpredictable aspects of working one-on-one.

Young college graduates say they wish they had known more about the workplace before they started their first job. It’s the unwritten rules and assumptions that discourage new-hires and cause them to leave too quickly or get fired.

Baby Boomers and older coworkers assume that Gen Yers know how to relate to customers and what is expected of them at work. Gen Yers expect the workplace to be like high school and college environments. There is a gap in many workplaces over what different generations expect at work.

GenLinks - "Make Life Real" classes teach Gen Yers how to adapt and survive the values and expectations of older bosses and coworkers and to stay long enough to learn from them. They also teach understanding of coworkers and the pleasures of communicating face to face.

Teacher and coach Tinker Barnett, equips Gen Yers for getting beyond the problems of difference to focus on fulfilling their role in the work and staying “real” with the purpose of the work. Fulfilling their role will require learning quality workplace communications. When these systematically interact, they will get what adds value to their lives and makes life real - meaning and purpose in work.

All classes employ problem solving, creative thinking, decision making and role-playing in real-life situations that Gen Yers are experiencing.

Make Life Real classes include:
•   Gen Y Survivor in a Boomer Workplace - Navigating the Unknown
•    Interpersonal Communications - Look'em in the Eye, Shake Their Hand
•    Customer Services Boot Camp – It’s Not About You This Time
•   Get Ready to Lead – On the Fast-track to Fill the Gap

Tinker says, “Our purpose in these classes is to create a working process for awakening potential in a way that generates within each student an understanding of our present way of working. The hope is that Gen Yers then play a significant part in evolving ways of working that have meaning and purpose so that business will generate value within the whole of community.”

Pre-registration is necessary and online at www.MakeLifeReal.com. Scholarships are available.

These steps for preparing Gen Yers for the workplace are just part of a “connecting generations” solution to help young people and the businesses that hire them.
The complete solution is outlined in Tinker’s white paper “Workplace Frustration: How to Reduce It and Manage Generation Y For An Increase in Company Profits” at www.GenerationalDivideCoaching.com
