June 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Your honeymoon, is probably the best and most expensive holiday you will ever take in your lifetime. The culmination of months of planning and preparation for the wedding day and a chance to finally relax and spend quality time with your new wife or husband. It is supposed to be a special occasion filled with memories that will last a lifetime. However, what happens when it all goes wrong?

Sometimes that trip of a lifetime includes things you just don't remember seeing in the brochure when you booked your package holiday to that fabulous location.

Simpson Millar Solicitors has a specialist team dedicated to assisting holidaymakers and honeymooners in making compensation claims against Tour Operators when the holidays they have booked and paid for are blighted by an accident or illness caused at their hotel or resort.

Popular honeymoon destinations include Mauritius, the Maldives, Italy, the Dominican Republic and other Caribbean Islands and Africa. Luxury all-inclusive hotels and resorts are the popular choice for honeymooning couples. However, this doesn’t always mean that you get the luxury treatment you paid for.

Common complaints that tour operators can receive include the fact that the hotel was just not up to standard and not as advertised in the brochure or that the honeymooning couple just didn't get the service they had expected eg one newlywed couple from Suffolk had booked their dream honeymoon with Thomas Cook to stay 10 nights at the luxury Laico Atlantic Hotel in Banjul, The Gambia.

However, they only ended up staying 2 nights at the hotel before flying home describing their time as a ‘complete nightmare’. Their problems started when they arrived in their room to find twin beds instead of a double and continued with a long list of complaints about the state of the room and the hotel generally.  After returning home and making a complaint to Thomas Cook they were told they would not be refunded any money being as they didn't make a complaint whilst at the resort.

This is only one aspect of things that could go wrong, say your all-inclusive package honeymoon included an illness that was caused by poor hygiene standards at your dream resort?

Illness could strike following consumption of contaminated food or drink from the all-inclusive buffet restaurant and lead to food poisoning infections such as Salmonella, Shigella, Campylobacter, E-coli and Giardia. You may not also be aware that merely swimming in your hotel pool has hidden dangers such as a nasty dose of Cryptosporidium due to contaminated water.

A holiday accident could also ruin your dream honeymoon with slips and trips in the hotel common as well as patio doors and balcony accidents causing a big problem.

Simpson Millar LLP, Solicitors helps hundreds of holidaymakers each year to pursue compensation claims against Tour Operators such as Thomas cook, Thomson, First Choice, Olympic and Virgin Holidays. Many of these people were on their honeymoon at the time. We are currently dealing with claims involving Salmonella illness and injuries caused by accidents for a number of couples who were on their honeymoon at the time.

If your honeymoon was blighted by an illness or accident that could have been prevented then get in touch to find out how Simpson Millar LLP Solicitors could help you claim compensation.
