PODS Milwaukee, Local Radio Stations Team Up for 'Operation Summer Relief’ Drive for Troops May 19

May 9, 2012 - PRLog -- (MILWAUKEE, W.I.) – With summer just around the corner, our troops overseas will be faced with the unbearable desert heat. In an effort to show that they are not forgotten, PODS Milwaukee and radio stations FM 106.1 Country, AM 1130 WISN and AM 920 The Wolf have teamed up with the nonprofit care packaging organization Honor Our Military to collect items that will show support for our military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Mary Ann D'Acquisto with Honor Our Military strongly believes in supporting our troops. An airman who wrote a recent heartfelt letter to her expressed how happy he was when he received his care package from the organization.

"The support you give is truly appreciated, it’s what keeps us all going over here,” the airman said. “We made the decision to come over here to be away from our families and it is your contributions that make it easy to bear."

On Saturday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the community is encouraged to donate summer-related items that will be used by the troops to protect them from the sun. Suggested donations include non-aerosol sunscreen lotion (SPG 15 or greater), non-aerosol insect repellent and sunglasses.

Other items needed include shaving cream, deodorant, peanut butter, drink mix, peanuts, razors, beef jerky, jelly, med wipes, canned fruit, eye drops, tuna kits, crackers, gum, mints, canned pasta, hand sanitizer, canned cheese, instant coffee, new CDs and DVDs, and canned stew.

“PODS Milwaukee is delighted to be a part of this effort to assist our service men and women in their effort to defend our freedom and our country,” said John Hudson, owner of PODS Milwaukee. “Thanks to ‘Honor our Military,” we can all let our troops know that they are not and will not be forgotten.”

Donations can be dropped off at the PODS® container located at the Milwaukee County War Memorial, 750 N. Lincoln Memorial Dr.

Cash donations are also being requested to cover shipping costs. Checks should be made payable to “Operations Summer Relief” and mailed to:
