When First Aid Is Not Enough to Save lives.

Basic Tactical Operational Medical Support Training Saves Lives in austere environments.

May 8, 2012 - PRLog -- Evansville Indiana, the urban battlefield is changing the way medical emergencies are handled by police officers requiring an unconventional response from EMS.  In 1993, Special Operations Forces recognized that the medical courses available did not address the care needed in a tactical setting. This lack of training was a precursor to the creation of the Tactical Combat Casualty Care course. Often referred to as T triple C it was designed to address common injuries that military medics encounter on the battlefield. The types of injuries that have the highest mortality in combat have similarities to those that law enforcement officers encounter on the urban battlefield, daily. Civilian tactical medics and tactical operators have adopted the T triple C guidelines due to its high success and proven track record in saving lives.

Strategic Skills Training Institute and Cypress Creek EMS have collaborated up to provide one of the most relevant tactical medic programs in the US. Graduates of this program have the skills needed to treat gunshots at the point of wounding.  Point of Wounding care is important because conventional EMS is not readily available in these unsecure tactical scenarios.  A graduate of the Basic Tactical Operations Medical Support Course (BTOMSC) stated the importance of tactical medicine in this message, " On 3-28-20XX at 1X00 hours, Officers were dispatched to a suicidal subject. Victim had called his wife to tell her he had cut his wrist. A second call from the victim’s friend stated the victim had cut his throat too. Officers arrived to find the victim in the back yard covered in blood. Officer XX McXxx ( whom I trained in tourniquets, pressure points and pressure dressings) applied pressure to the victims left arm. When I, Officer Rxxx (EMT- T) arrived I immediately recognized severe hemorrhaging from the victim, it made me pause and think, that's a lot of blood.  Utilizing TC3 principals learned during the BTOMSC, I quickly applied a Cat TQ high and tight to the left arm of the victim. The victim was transported to a local trauma center and detained for CIT. Thanks SSTI and Cypress Creek EMS for providing such real world training! Today a citizen’s life was saved, tomorrow it may be mine. If it is my turn, rest assured I am ready for the fight and ready to provide care at the Point of Wounding. Thanks again!

This Officer is a former graduate of BTOMSC at Cypress Creek EMS. Good Job and Keep spreading the word, "Tactical Medicine saves lives”. When the shooting stops basic first aid is not enough and requires and Unconventional EMS approach.   For more information on how you can become a Warrior Hearler, go to www.ccems.com or contact Wren Nealy at 281-378-0826. http://youtu.be/mErO5dQAOaM
