The 2012 Power Walk is being held in more than 30 Dress for Success affiliate cities across the country and around the world. Elizabeth Ruiz of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” plans to emcee the local Power Walk a second year in a row, showing her support for this inspiring cause. The Rhode Island affiliate of Dress for Success launched in 2010. Dress for Success RI holds monthly meetings and welcomes new volunteers to help disadvantaged women dress for success. The Power Walk for Dress for Success was held in three countries and thirty-two cities in 2011. Dress for Success empowers women to make healthy choices in work and in life and The Power Walk for Dress for Success plays a crucial role in ensuring that women understand the importance of maintaining a well-balanced lifestyle. This 5k event promotes women’s health and wellness initiatives and also raises funds and visibility for Dress for Success. The Power Walk for Dress for Success is a celebration of family, fitness, and financial independence. More than 60% of Dress for Success clients are single mothers, yet they power through obstacles, overcome extraordinary challenges and redefine possibilities for both themselves and their families. Founded in New York City in 1997, Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization offering services designed to help underprivileged women find jobs and remain employed. Each Dress for Success client receives one suit when she has a job interview and can return for a second suit or separates when she finds work and joins the Professional Women’s Group, where she receives education, mentoring, and networking. Since 1997, Dress for Success has served more than 500,000 women around the world. Each year the organization reaches more than 45,000 women in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Mexico, Poland and the West Indies.
