KENS 5 and SACU Team Up for ExCEL Awards for Local Educators

May 4, 2012 - PRLog -- On May 1, 2012, nineteen teachers from around San Antonio were honored as 2011-2012 ExCEL Award recipients. Those teachers are:

According to SACU representative Paige Ramsey-Palmer, “Each year the program honors teachers, beginning in September. Approximately every two weeks, SACU and KENS present an educator with a Golden Apple trophy made by the company who creates the Oscars for the Academy Awards, a cash award for $1,000 and featured airtime on Eyewitness News at 6. A total of 19 teachers from public school districts in the greater San Antonio area will receive this honor.”

These teachers were honored as a group on Tuesday evening at a banquet hosted by SACU and KENS 5. Each winner was presented with a personally inscribed copy of the book, “Less Stress for Teachers,” written by former teacher turned organizing expert Helene Segura.

SACU and KENS 5 have honored excellence in public schools through the ExCEL Award for thirteen years. Since the program began in 1999, the organizations have recognized 228 teachers with a "Golden Apple" trophy and a check.
