Follow on Google News | First Vocational Skills Training Institute by VTCT, UK at CordiaCordia Group of Institutes today launched ‘Cordia Institute of Vocational Training’ at the Cordia Educational Complex at Sanghol on Chandigarh Ludhiana Road in collaboration with Vocational Training Charitable Trust, UK (VTCT)
Quoting projections of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Lord Rana stated that India is expected to be home to a skilled workforce of 500 million by 2022. “About 12 million persons are expected to join the workforce every year. This talent pool needs to be adequately skilled and would be critical to drive the growth of the economy as well as play a significant role in employment,” Chief Executive, VTCT, UK Mr. Stephen Vickers said that Cordia Group has given opportunity to those who plan to settle in UK or Europe. “With this certificate in hand, the aspirants would get the job and can lead smooth life,” he added. Counsellor, Knowledge Economy, British High Commission, India Mr. Andrew Jackson, who was the Chief Guest at the function, added that there are plenty of jobs in the market but dearth of people with right skills. Skilled people are in great demand in India as well as abroad including UK. Elaborating on the courses available, Lord Rana said the institute will initially offer two courses - beauty therapy and hairdressing & barbering. Courses would be of six months duration commencing from July 2012 and 25 students batch would be taught to begin with. Qualification requisite for being eligible is to be able to converse in English. All courses at the institute will be taught by staff who have been specially trained in delivering these courses under guidance from VTCT. Institute will offer both training and commercial services in two separate sections. “This all new and modern institute has been created under the professional guidance of VTCT senior officials, Runa McNamara and Donna Waugh and under the technical guidance of project coordinator for CIVT Bhavna Champaneri,” Director VTCT Nic Robinson, Director BKSB UK Harvinder Atwal, Education and Training Manager BKSB, John English, Regional Advisor India for BKSB Mandeep Singh, and Ms. Tracey Eisen, Operations Director of Rutledge, Northern Ireland were present on the occasion. Ms. Urmil Verma, Director. Lord Rana foundation trust and Dr R.K Sharma, Director Cordia Group of Institutes presented the report of the activities of the Smt. Jawala Devi Memorial trust. Honorable Justice Rajive Bhalla, Sr. Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court, highlighted the evolution and development of Village. Sanghol as developing educational complex for Rural area. At the end Dr. Kulvir Rai, Principal, Cordia College extended vote of thanks of various dignities present in the function. End
