I bought this WR300 along with the HH50 in a bundle from Firemall. They arrived just in time for the first tornadoes of our season and were extremely helpful. I’ve not had a weather radio before and had heard how horrible they are: either sounding all the time (totally annoying) or not at all. I am very pleased with the WR300. It has a good weight to it (doesn’t feel cheap). I found it very easy to program – and it works well for me! The day of the tornadoes in TX, I had the HH50 with me as we evacuated the school. At home, the WR300 had sounded the alarm and voice reported the alert; then the type of alerts show up as a colored light on the top side of the radio and the type of alert scrolled over the back-lit portion. I am pleased with the product and would definitely recommend it.

Since I purchased the radio on 02/12/2012 it is too early to provide an assessment of the quality of the item, however, it is important to chronicle the following information.

The setup was easy with clear instructions for programming. The programming worked the first time and all the software seemed to function as designed. The programming was much easier than my previous weather radio. The volume for voice reports is very good and the aerial seems to bring in the weather station with no problems.

If I had any issues with the radio so far, it would be that I wish the radio had the ability to change the amount of time the notification plays. It apparently is a permanent setting of 8 minutes before auto shut off. This however, is not much of a problem.
I am also pleased to hear that Midland is working on a way to condense the area where reports are made. Weather alerting is still done over a much wider area that one needs. This of course has been a problem for all of us who use weather radios. You get a lot more reports that you really need. I live on the Gulf Coast but do not need marine warnings that stretch out several miles into the gulf. So I am pleased that Midland is attacking this problem proactively. Overall, I am very pleased with the product so far.

I purchased this just a few weeks ago expecting a bad severe weather season, and today, 2 March, it got its first real test. It performed perfectly. I had the tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings minutes before the information was available online, and even before the local news stations interrupted programming with the announcements.
The siren on this radio is very loud and could definitely wake me if necessary, which is good because I live quite a distance from the nearest civil emergency siren and I can rarely hear it.

Luckily, I made it through today with only minor property damage, but others south of me were not so lucky. I can only hope that they all had this radio to warn them to get to safety.
