Endsleigh and Woodstock give peace of mind during April showers

Endsleigh Insurance and its subsidiary Woodstock Insurance Brokers aim to give people peace-of-mind that their valuable items are insured against flash flooding and water damage.

April 11, 2012 - PRLog -- During ‘Climate Week’ (12th to 18th March) there was much talk in the news around the drought that parts of Britain are currently facing. However Woodstock Insurance Brokers, a subsidiary of Endsleigh Insurance is reminding people of the number one environmental threat (which is facing the UK, flooding according to the Environment Agency), and reassuring them that they can protect their belongings should the worst happen.

Data published by the Environment Agency states that the threat of flooding is increasing, with around 5.2 million properties in England at risk.

Alex Stutchbury, of Woodstock Insurance stated: “Ultimately climate change affects the distribution of rainfall, and with the climate continuously changing people need to be aware of flooding and make sure that their valuables and buildings are insured.
“Practical items such as washing machines and fridge-freezers, and also those personally important items like home cinema systems and large and valuable musical instruments, such as pianos, cannot be moved in the instance of a flood, so it’s important that you have them insured.”

According to the Environment Agency, over £2.1 billion will be spent over the next three years combating water damage and flooding, and while the drought is currently creating problems for some parts of the country, it’s important to know that the impact of changes in rain distribution means nowhere is free from floods. Woodstock and Endsleigh (http://www.endsleigh.co.uk) can provide the right cover to help people feel at ease that even if they should lose valuable items through flooding, their financial security is guaranteed.

As April is upon us, the possible risk of a heavy shower or two rises, there is also an increased risk of flash flooding, especially in drought hit areas. This risk increase has come about as a result of the recent colder, drier winters which mean that the aquifier* structures that capture and retain water in the soil have become depleted after recent warm summer and autumn months.

Endsleigh and Woodstock offer a range of home insurance and content policies, including specialist policies offering coverage for previously flooded and water damage risks. Contents policies are available for both home owners and tenants (including for shared accommodation), and recommend that everyone should consider reviewing home insurance policies to ensure they have adequate protection for particularly valuable items.

* An aquifer is a wet underground layer of water-bearing permeable rock or unconsolidated materials (gravel, sand, or silt) from which groundwater can be usefully extracted using a water well. The study of water flow in aquifers and the characterisation of aquifers is called hydrogeology. Related terms include aquitard, which is a bed of low permeability along an aquifer, and aquiclude (or aquifuge), which is a solid, impermeable area underlying or overlying an aquifer. If the impermeable area overlies the aquifer pressure could cause it to become a confined aquifer.
