Activity holidays, but for adults - from Activities Abroad

Looking for something more active than a beach holiday? - Activity holidays are for adults too, says Activities Abroad

April 10, 2012 - PRLog -- Having noticed an increasing interest in its adult-only activity trips, proving that activity holidays are not just for families, Activities Abroad has added a number of
brand-new adult-only trips for 2012.

And, assuming you’re keen to do more than just work on your tan, there’s something for everyone, with short and long-haul destinations both covered, as well as single and multi-activity trips. Some holidays are all-inclusive, while others offer pick-and-mix activities, with guests paying for whatever they choose to do. Likewise, there are small group departures for some tours, while other trips have a minimum of just two guests.

Here’s a selection of adult-specific activity holidays, many new for this year and all following the company’s motto, ‘We’ve been, we love it, so will you’.

An activity holiday for those short on time
The Lake District: Closer to home doesn’t mean less active or exciting, as this weekend in the Lake District proves. Crammed with activities which make the most of the stunning surroundings – think mountain biking, climbing and gorge-scrambling – this is a busy weekend for outdoor enthusiasts. There’s also time to try abseiling, as well as via ferrata on the rock faces of the Honister slate mine. Stay at a country house hotel near the market town of Keswick, in a prime position for exploring Derwentwater and the Borrowdale Valley. Once there, you’ll find everything has been arranged for you, from transfers between activities to equipment and tuition. Departing May-August, the Lake District Activity Weekend costs from £295 pp (two sharing) including two nights’ B&B, two lunches, all activities, transfers, all equipment and fully-qualified instructors.

Other short activity holidays include Morzine in the French Alps and Slovenia’s Julian Alps.

An activity holiday for those seeking plenty of time to relax too
Spain & France: This brand-new Barcelona-and-Pyrenees trip combines city sightseeing with countryside relaxation, throwing in a handful of leisurely activities. Spend the first few days in Barcelona, exploring its museums, parks and beaches, and pedalling your way around on a cycling tour via medieval palaces and modernist architecture. Later that week, swap the urban buzz for rural peace, and drive across the border into the French Pyrenees. Stay at a converted Catalan farmstead which, run by walking enthusiasts, is ideally placed for numerous hiking trails. There’s also a natural pool and mountain bike-hire included. Enjoy thoroughly well-earned dinners out on the terrace with locally-sourced food and delicious wines. Departing March-October, the week-long Cities and Mountains trip costs from £1,095 pp (two sharing) including flights (London), transfers, car hire, seven nights’ B&B (three nights Barcelona/four nights farmstead), four evening meals with wine, cycling tour and mountain bike hire.

Other relaxed and leisurely activity holidays include Tuscany, Austria and Gozo.

An activity holiday for those seeking to focus on one activity
Fuerteventura: This brand-new surf-specific trip will appeal to those who want to learn a particular skill on holiday. With an average sea temperature of 20°C and 10-11 hours of sunshine each day, Fuerteventura’s ideal for all levels, too – from beginners to advanced. Guests are based in the north in the peaceful village of El Cotillo which, with its traditional harbour and relaxed feel, is a far cry from the island’s more built-up areas. The local surf school has recently gained sponsorship from Animal, meaning that the equipment’s really top-notch and perfect for all levels. Five half-day sessions are included, with the instructor collecting guests from the hotel and taking them to wherever the best conditions may be. Car hire is also included so you can easily explore the island. Departing May-November, the El Cotillo surf week costs from £1,185 pp (two sharing) including flights (London), car hire, seven nights’ full board with most drinks, five days’ surfing, all equipment and fully-qualified instructors.

Other single-activity trips include mountain biking in Tuscany and PADI Open Water diving in Gozo.

An activity holiday for those seeking a variety of activities in Europe
Croatia: This trip, another brand-new one for 2012, makes the most of Croatia’s Adriatic Coast with stays in Split and Hvar (both in luxurious hotels). Paddle in a sea kayak (stopping to swim in secluded bays in the unspoilt Pakleni archipelago), hike along coastal paths (taking in a ghost village and lavender fields) and set sail on a yacht, staying on board for sunset. Rock-climbing – complete with spectacular sea views – and a guided cycling tour from Split to the Cetina River are also possible, although you’re just as welcome to spend free time sightseeing and relaxing. Departing May-October, the seven-night Split and Hvar trip costs from £1,325 pp (two sharing) including flights (London), transfers, seven nights’ B&B (hotel), all activities, equipment and tuition.

Other multi-activity trips in Europe include Turkey, Portugal’s Alentejo Coast, Fuerteventura and Slovenia.

An activity holiday for those seeking a variety of activities further afield
Peru: Brand-new and very exciting, this two-week trip is packed with activities, archaeology and wildlife. Kayak on vast Lake Titicaca, explore world-famous Machu Picchu, zip-line through the Sacred Valley, mountain-bike to the Moray salt mines and search for caiman on a night-time boat trip on the Amazon.  Admire a range of landscapes, including city, desert, islands and jungle, while staying in accommodation which ranges from a rainforest lodge to a colonial mansion and a boutique hotel. Departing January-December, the two-week Ultimate Peru trip costs from £3,495 pp (two sharing) including transfers, three internal flights, 14 nights’ B&B, 16 other meals, local guides, all activities, equipment and tuition. International flights are extra – Activities Abroad can arrange these on request.

Other long-haul multi-activity trips include Borneo, Costa Rica and Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.
