Clutter and chaos to curb appeal.

improve the home's "curb appeal".  Sounds like a great idea, but where do
you start?

Certified Professional Organizer Wendy Arundel, owner and manager of The
Mudroom, a Wellesley-based company serving Greater Boston, suggests a number of simple and practical steps to de-cluttering your home in preparation to sell.

"The reason you de-clutter is that it allows the potential buyer to fully
envision your living space and how they can utilize it," noted Arundel.  

"First, clear all hallways both in the main living space and the basement.
Allow freedom of movement," continued Arundel.  "Second, let your closets
breathe.  Leave them half empty. Space sells. Third, keep counter tops
completely clear.  Fourth, remove as much as possible from the garage and
outbuildings.  Fifth, neaten up shelves and pantries. Sixth, put away
personal photos.  Buyers don't want to buy YOUR house, they want to buy
THEIRS.  Seventh, continue to de-personalize as much as possible."

But where do you put all that stuff?  Arundel recommends that you
temporarily rent a nearby storage space.  Better yet, have a yard sale and say bon voyage to your formerly treasured items.

Lastly, Arundel strongly recommends that you clean your home from stem to
stern.  Buyers associate cleanliness to how you may have maintained your
home for years.

De-cluttering and cleaning takes only a modest budget and a focused effort. Do so and you will help streamline the sale and maximize the selling price. A great payoff for the effort.
