April 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Leaf River, IL, April 3, 2012: To kick-off the 2012 summer camp season, Camp Kupugani, an overnight camp near Chicago that focuses on diversity, has announced a “Design a Uni-tee” contest to help inspire creativity among young people.  Kids and teenagers are asked to create a tee-shirt that inspires empowerment, respect and community in a unique and fun way.  The contest is focused on the question: what does unity mean to you?  Entries are submitted by posting a picture of the completed tee-shirt on Facebook.  Participants may also submit a paragraph or create a video about why their tee-shirt deserves to win.  Any creative medium is fine – markers, collage, patchwork, etc.

The winner will be selected by a small panel of diversity leaders and will receive their choice of $200 off a session at Camp Kupugani or a complimentary mother/daughter retreat weekend (retail value of $200). Winners who represent a school or community group will receive a $100 cash prize for their organization.

As children are learning more and more these days through digital media, traditional creativity become more important than ever.  Studies (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/maryann-kohl-importance-o...) suggest that creative self-expression helps children in at least three key areas:

•   It expands their knowledge and ability to interact with the world around them
•   It enhances their communication skills
•   It develops their overarching identity as an individual

What better way to display these values than encouraging kids to quite literally, “wear their hearts on their sleeves”?
