African Head of State wants state to be Africa’s Silicon Valley

March 25, 2012 - PRLog -- LONDON, UK: The Head of Osun State, Govenor Rauf Aregbesola, plegded to make Osun State a ‘technology hub’ in the same way Bangalore is to India or the Silicon Valley is to United States during  his tenure in office. This election promise was announced at a conference which took place at the ultra-modern hall (which was opened by her majesty, Queen Elizabeth II in February 2007). The event - the first ever of its kind - attended by a distinguished audience consisting of senior professors, was the first ever lecture given by an African head of Government at a leading modern university.

Govenor Rauf Aregbesola's lecture was on "The current Technological and Educational challenges and opportunities" which conveyed the importance of recognising technology ‘indisputably’ to be the future stating ‘the world belongs to those who know technology and not to those who have it.’ This event marked the beginning of a technological revolutionary shift in the future of African Education is currently being pioneered in Osun State. Governor Aregbesola was invited by Professor Patrick McGhee, who is currently the leader (Vice Chancellor -VC) of the University of East London. The Head of Osun State was represented by Dr Charles Akinola.

A spokesperson for the Leadership and Partnership Foundation (EIE) program who partners with various governments and supports the leadership teams of top institutions, commended such collaborative initiatives between universities and Heads of government.
